Born and raised in Surabaya, Indonesia, Belle Suot developed a deep passion for music at an early age. She began her musical journey studying classical piano, which soon sparked her curiosity to explore a wide range of instruments and styles. A natural collaborator, Belle grew up enjoying the process of making music across genres.
Her classical training led her to join a youth orchestra at the age of seven, where she also performed as a soloist in small venues. Her first collaborative experience came through accompanying a children’s choir at her church, eventually becoming an active member of the church band as she approached her teenage years.
While classically trained, Belle discovered a strong interest in jazz piano during her teens, drawing inspiration from legendary pianists such as Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans. Alongside jazz, she explored funk, fusion, pop, R&B, and soul, expanding her musical vocabulary through learning multiple instruments. These diverse influences shaped her artistic direction and guided her musical growth throughout her college years.
Belle ultimately chose piano as her primary instrument and earned her Master’s degree in Commercial Piano from Azusa Pacific University, where she studied under Bill Cantos. I was surrounded by music as young as I can remember. My dad had bands around since my older brothers were kids. There is a video of me that my mom filmed on a full size drum kit at 2 years, 9 months old hitting everything without being able to reach the pedals.
That combination turned into starting a family band with my dad and brothers playing covers in restaurants around the age of 7. I was in band all the way from elementary school, junior high, high school jazz and marching band, to attending Citrus College from 2018 to 2023.
Over the years, I had the incredible opportunity to play with an outstanding roster of high class musicians. Wayne Bergeron, Jay Jennings, Stockton Helbing, and Oz Noy to name a few. I also went on two tours over the course of my time at Citrus College; Hawaii in summer of 2019 and Europe in summer of 2023.
I am also in an original band called Harry’s Truck. It features my dad on bass and backup vocals, and the guitarist is the ceramics teacher at Alta Loma High School. We do more of the traditional bar gig and occasional summer festival. We have a catalog of all original tunes spanning a variety of genres ranging from rock, surf rock, jazz, funk, blues and country.
When I’m not playing in a creative context of original music, I’m either learning songs for the next gig or teaching. I have been teaching drums at Hi-Line Music in Rancho Cucamonga since September 2023.
